We are Synecdoche, an interdisciplinary design studio. As architects, designers, and makers we leverage operations, utilize material detailing, and consider constraints tactically to boldly approach projects with purpose.

Based in the midwest we source and collaborate locally. We’re woman owned and led, supporting a diverse team of makers while bringing a new approach to what an industry product line and furniture shop can look like.

Our product line is small and influenced by custom pieces we’ve created for architecture and interiors projects we’ve designed. The intention is for every product to feel as custom as the environment it sits within while streamlined for durable and efficient use.

This shop is a part of our whole studio. It’s actually a synecdoche. What is a synecdoche? It’s a literary trope in which a part is meant to represent the whole or vice versa. We love the idea of a material or object representing a larger idea; that’s what design does. People, places, materials, and objects play a huge role in scale and impact. Using synecdoche as a critical thinking design tool realizes new opportunities and modes of engagement.
